Bitwarden Credential & Password Management
Passwords remain one of the most common ways employees, contractors, administrators, and applications gain access to business systems. The problem is that credentials often end up scattered across browsers, spreadsheets, notes, text messages, shared documents, and individual employee accounts. That makes them difficult to secure, share appropriately, audit, and recover when responsibilities change.
Sarsfield Technology helps businesses use Bitwarden to create a more controlled credential-management process. We can help with licensing, organization design, migration from existing password stores, user and group setup, secure shared collections, browser and desktop deployment, identity integration, policy configuration, onboarding and offboarding, and ongoing support. The goal is to make secure credential use practical for employees while giving the business better ownership, visibility, and control.
Why Bitwarden with Sarsfield Technology
Buying a password manager license is only the first step. A successful deployment requires decisions about who owns credentials, how credentials are grouped, who can access them, how users are provisioned, what happens when an employee leaves, which security policies are enforced, and how the platform fits with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, identity providers, endpoint management, and the rest of the IT environment. Sarsfield Technology can design and support those pieces as part of a broader cybersecurity and managed IT strategy.
Bitwarden Solutions We Implement & Support
Bitwarden Password Manager for Business
Bitwarden Password Manager provides encrypted storage and synchronization for passwords, passphrases, passkeys, secure notes, identities, payment information, and other vault items across supported browsers, desktops, and mobile devices. Business organizations add centralized administration so companies can manage users, groups, collections, permissions, event logs, policies, and credential-sharing workflows rather than leaving important business logins under individual employee control.
Secure Shared Credentials & Collections
Business credentials frequently need to be shared by a department or job function: accounting portals, social media accounts, vendor sites, administrative consoles, equipment logins, service accounts, and other systems that do not support individual SSO identities. Bitwarden Collections allow organizations to group shared vault items and assign access to individual users or groups. Sarsfield Technology can help structure collections around departments, job roles, clients, systems, or business functions and apply least-privilege access instead of sharing passwords through email or documents.
Passkeys, TOTP & Multi-Factor Authentication Support
Bitwarden can store and use passkeys for supported services and can also store authenticator keys and generate time-based one-time password (TOTP) codes for users on eligible paid plans. Bitwarden also provides a standalone Authenticator application. These capabilities can reduce dependence on memorized passwords and help users adopt stronger authentication where supported. We can help determine when passwords, passkeys, TOTP, hardware security keys, or other MFA methods are appropriate within the client environment.
Single Sign-On & Identity Integration
Bitwarden Enterprise can integrate with existing identity providers using SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect (OIDC) for Login with SSO. This lets organizations connect Bitwarden authentication with an established identity platform while still maintaining Bitwarden’s encrypted vault model. Sarsfield Technology can assist with SSO planning and integration, including Microsoft Entra ID environments when appropriate.
SCIM, Directory Connector & User Lifecycle Management
Bitwarden supports automated user and group provisioning through SCIM for Teams and Enterprise organizations and offers Directory Connector for synchronizing users and groups from supported directory services. These tools help reduce manual administration as employees join, change roles, or leave. We can help map groups, automate provisioning where appropriate, validate de-provisioning, and align Bitwarden access with the client’s broader onboarding and offboarding process.
Enterprise Policies, Account Recovery & Administrative Control
Enterprise policies can enforce organization-wide security requirements such as two-step login, SSO-related controls, account recovery enrollment, and other administrative standards. Bitwarden Enterprise also provides account recovery capabilities that allow authorized administrators to help enrolled users regain access when credentials or two-factor methods are lost. Sarsfield Technology can help configure policies that balance usability, security, and administrative recovery requirements.
Credential Risk Visibility with Access Intelligence
Bitwarden Access Intelligence gives Enterprise administrators visibility into weak, reused, and exposed credentials associated with organization-owned vault items and helps prioritize critical applications and remediation activity. Current 2026 capabilities include trend reporting that can show how credential risk changes over time. This can make password management more measurable by helping IT teams identify where credential risk remains concentrated and track improvements instead of relying only on user training and policy.
Bitwarden Secrets Manager for Technical Credentials
For development, automation, and infrastructure use cases, Bitwarden Secrets Manager is designed to store and distribute application secrets such as API keys, database credentials, certificates, and other machine-access information. It uses projects and machine accounts to scope programmatic access. This is different from ordinary employee password management, but it can be useful for clients with developers, automation, DevOps, scripts, or applications that require centrally managed non-human credentials.
Security Architecture
Bitwarden uses end-to-end, zero-knowledge encryption so vault data is encrypted on the client before it is sent to Bitwarden cloud infrastructure. Current Bitwarden documentation specifies AES-256-CBC with HMAC-SHA-256 for vault-data protection and supports key-derivation methods including PBKDF2 SHA-256 and Argon2id. Bitwarden also publishes its software as open source/source available code and supports cloud-hosted deployments as well as self-hosting for eligible enterprise environments. Security still depends on correct configuration, strong authentication, endpoint security, user behavior, and administrative practices, so the password manager should be treated as one layer of a broader security program.
Current Capabilities & 2026 Product Direction
-
Bitwarden increasingly positions Password Manager for business around credential lifecycle management: creation, use, sharing, rotation, retirement, and succession when employees change roles or leave.
-
Enterprise Access Intelligence can identify and prioritize credential risks and now includes reporting that measures risk trends over time.
-
Business administration includes shared collections, groups, role-based permissions, event logs, APIs, directory synchronization, and SCIM provisioning depending on plan.
-
Enterprise capabilities include Login with SSO, organization policies, account recovery, claimed domains/accounts, advanced administrative control, and self-hosting options.
-
Bitwarden supports passwords, passphrases, passkeys, TOTP-based authentication workflows, browser extensions, desktop apps, mobile apps, and web access across common user platforms.
-
Bitwarden Secrets Manager extends credential protection to application and machine secrets such as API keys, certificates, database credentials, and CI/CD or automation use cases.
Implementation & Migration
A credential-management rollout works best when it includes both technical configuration and an adoption plan. Sarsfield Technology can help inventory existing credential-storage practices, determine which business credentials should be organization-owned, design collections and groups, configure administrative roles and policies, deploy client applications, import supported password data, integrate identity provisioning, and train users on secure sharing and autofill. We can also help phase out insecure alternatives such as browser-saved business passwords, spreadsheets, shared documents, and unapproved consumer password stores.

Integration with the Rest of the Technology Environment
Credential management should not exist as a standalone security island. Bitwarden can complement Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID identity controls, Google Workspace, endpoint security, MFA, RMM, vulnerability management, firewall security, backup, and user lifecycle processes. For example, a company may use Microsoft Entra ID for workforce identity and SSO while using Bitwarden to secure the many third-party applications and shared business credentials that do not fit cleanly into SSO. Sarsfield Technology can help define those boundaries and connect the tools into a practical security standard.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Sarsfield Technology support Bitwarden for businesses?
Yes. We can help with Bitwarden business licensing, organization setup, migration, deployment, user/group configuration, shared collections, security policies, identity integration, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
Why should a business use Bitwarden instead of saving passwords in a browser?
A business password manager adds centralized ownership, secure sharing, administrative controls, user lifecycle management, event logging, policy enforcement, and organization-level credential management that ordinary browser password storage does not provide.
Can Bitwarden share passwords without everyone seeing or emailing the password?
Yes. Bitwarden business organizations use shared vault items and Collections to grant approved users or groups access to business credentials. Permissions can be designed around the organization’s roles and workflow rather than sending passwords through email, chat, or documents.
Can Bitwarden integrate with Microsoft Entra ID or our SSO provider?
Yes. Bitwarden Enterprise supports SSO using SAML 2.0 or OpenID Connect, and Bitwarden documents integrations with identity platforms including Microsoft Entra ID. SCIM can also automate user and group provisioning for supported Teams and Enterprise configurations.
Can you migrate us from another password manager?
In many cases, yes. Bitwarden supports imports from numerous password managers and browser credential stores. We can review the existing environment, plan the migration, organize company-owned credentials, test imports, deploy the Bitwarden clients, and help users transition.
What happens to shared passwords when an employee leaves?
When credentials are stored as organization-owned items in properly configured shared collections, the business retains those items. The departing employee can be removed from the organization and their access can be revoked. High-risk credentials should still be reviewed and rotated when appropriate as part of offboarding.
Does Bitwarden support passkeys and multi-factor authentication?
Yes. Bitwarden supports passkey storage and use for compatible services and can store TOTP authenticator keys and generate codes for eligible users. It also supports several two-step login methods for Bitwarden account protection. We can help determine the best authentication approach for your environment.
What is the difference between Bitwarden Password Manager and Secrets Manager?
Password Manager is primarily for human users and workforce credentials. Secrets Manager is intended for developer and machine credentials such as API keys, database passwords, certificates, scripts, applications, and CI/CD workflows. Some businesses may use both, but they solve different credential-management problems.
